About us

Hi, we’re Sheffield Coppice Workers!

We are a co-operatively run coppicing and woodland management business, based in Sheffield. We work on a range of projects for local councils, NGOs, private land owners and conservation organisations across South Yorkshire.

Our main focus is on the restoration, management and creation of coppice woodland. By managing woodlands in cycles, we aim to provide sustainable materials, increase biodiversity, and create environmentally positive and empowering jobs.

We produce a range of traditional coppice products from the woodlands we manage, such as hazel hurdles, hedge stakes and fence posts. We also specialise in many other woodland management, forestry and conservation practises, including: hedgelaying, felling and thinning of woodland, scrub clearance, ancient woodland restoration, invasive species removal, tree planting and more.

Our values

We formed Sheffield Coppice Workers because we wanted to establish a fairer, enjoyable and more meaningful working environment for our members.

All of our members are directors of the company, so everyone is treated evenly and respectfully. As a collectively owned and democratic organisation, we have a shared decision making process and encourage active participation in all aspects of the organisation. We aim to nurture a creative, supportive and positive working environment, where honesty and transparency are prioritised.

We believe that nature should be valued in such a way that empowers and connects local communities. By enabling participation in the regeneration and management of our local ecosystems, we hope to help build a more complementary relationship with the land.
